How did you get started in Facilities?
 
Darlene:
I worked for Blue Cross Blue Shield of Florida for eight years in the Customer Service Department.  My Operations Manager was also responsible for facilities management so I helped with several projects over the year.  When Customer Service relocated to Tampa, I became the Operations Liaison. Over the three-year period in that position, I worked more closely with the Operations Manager on facility related projects and covered for her when she was out on medical leave.  It was then that I fell in love with facilities management. I then tried residential property management for a couple of years but went back to facilities management in March of 2004 in my current position as Facilities Manager for Universal American Corporation.

During a recent IFMA Orlando Chapter Board of Directors meeting, the Code of Hammurabi was brought up by our chapter President, Larry Simmons, CFM in reference to taking responsibility for one's actions. I was not familiar with the "code" reference, but intrigued by it, so I did what every good FM does - I quickly consulted the internet! Read on...
